It’s gonna be a longhorn day We all got things get in our way Y’ know the path we often take is full of twists and turns You may swerve and deviate Off that straight and narrow way But if your goal’s the watering hole you know’ll you’ll return I was a little lost lamb til she took my hand And she showed me the path to the promised land And then I took a while to walk that country mile and now it seems Somewhere in the getting there The trail turns serpentine But keep your tail upon the trail and the live that longhorn dream Cus it’s gonna be a longhorn day, ooh, ooh, ooh It’s gonna be a longhorn day, ooh, ooh, ooh It’s not a matter of an if But a when Sooner or later you’re gonna end up ‘round a bend And you’ll look back from there and say How did I get here anyway? It had to be a longhorn day It’s gonna be a longhorn day

Kansas 03:05
I remember Kansas plains And how my daddy held those reins Why o why can’t it be Like I was in Liberal, wild and free Don’t be worried when the harvest don’t bring nothing to your table Don’t stop driving when the sunshine behind dark clouds hide Just shine on and let it be Keep on working on the ol 4C You’re not alone in being lonely anytime lookin’ back, I can see How my daddy’s smile gave me strength Cus something small can hold a lot of power Like the smallest spark can stir the greatest fire Don’t be worried when the harvest don’t bring nothing to your table Don’t stop driving when the sunshine behind dark clouds hide Just shine on and let it be Keep on working on the ol 4C You’re not alone in being lonely anytime

I learned how to twiddle my thumbs now like a champion And I picked up a new language by talking to the wind I can walk the floor like that Texas troubadour And I'm too busy watching time pass by, for pastimes with my friends In lieu of you, there's a lot that I can do I'm occupied with many nights I've cried I'm all booked up with hours that I'll look up at the moon Wondering what I'll do In lieu of you Well i hardly even understand what time is So I dont know if time's been kind or if it's on my side Cus I keep turning back the clock to see if I can find us But I wind up reminding myself I'm too occupied In lieu of you, there's a lot that I can do I'm occupied with many nights I've cried I'm all booked up with hours that I'll look up at the moon Wondering what I'll do In lieu of you In lieu of you I'm lonesome But I hope some day you'll be Missing out on someone who keeps himself busy wondering what you do in lieu of me In lieu of you, there's a lot that I can do I'm occupied with many nights I've cried I'm all booked up with hours that I'll look up at the moon Wondering what I'll do In lieu of you

Look at all them longhorns Look at all them cows No place in my heart like you and Texas skies right now I’ll work this land a happy man As long as I’m allowed To lay my eyes upon your eyes And look at all them cows Them horns begin to grow on you When you know ‘em all by name There’s wisdom in their deep set eyes And I love ‘em all the same I weave this tractor down the road To lay the good hay out And you should see ‘em leap behind me Look at all them cows Little calf wanders off the path with wonder in his mind Just like me, his curiosity will blaze a trail See what he’ll find You know, we all need some time To spread our wings, go out and learn to fly And Heaven only knows just where I’m bound But I’ll keeping looking til they lay my body down…. And I’ll look at all them cows

I kiss the bride beside me It’s early so I put on some coffee and a cowboy hat ‘cus that Texas sun burns hot out on that ranch road Where I’m at The longhorns are loping out in the open With their proud horns tip to tip I treat ‘em all like family They put a big smile on my lips Oooh Get the bunkhouse key, where ol’ Cowboy Lee’ll Jump out and make you pee your pants And after evening’s feed, we’ll throw a jamboree So y’all come out and dance That little longhorn there’ll make a good bull Go on and and let ‘em out of the chute The sun’s going down I’m gonna walk around Get this caliche off my boots Oooh I see a ‘horn’s tail waggin’ Hear a little lamb bleatin’ The hay bales are fallin’ For the evenin’ feedin’ It’s all a little piece of heaven In that lone star longhorn style Well, it’s a dusty day but I’m a’ workin’ my way Back home like an eagle flies I’m a’ hoardin’ the herd cus I’m steady and sure I’ll be a cowboy ’til I die And tonight at the barn I’ll twirl you in my arms To the tune of a hill country song ‘cause your pretty smile’s all I need at the end of a day so long

You gotta seize the moment Make it happen Use that energy You gotta crank the love out The sun shines for you and me Oh, Watch them cowgirls go Oh, Turn up that radio Cus there’s a sunshine in your soul This lovely light youll give away And when you smile a million smiles That is how your sunshine stays Oh, Watch them cowgirls go Woah back up boys, and take it slow, we’re just rollin on down the road And we have friends who stand by us They keep us smiling through the night And there’s no question good will come When all this sunshine’s in your soul Oh, Watch them cowgirls go Ohhhhhhhh You gotta seize the moment Make it happen Use that energy You gotta crank the love out The sun shines for you and me You gotta seize the moment Make it happen Use that energy-You gotta crank the love out The sun shines for you and me Ohh Ohh

O I love how the the hot wind blows Up and Down Burnet county backroads It’s time to unwind and to unload This city strife and to it go Im tired of that big town dealing I Come alive with this country feeling So stick me in the middle of the cattle feeding And I’ll feel right at home, Catch a whopper in the watering hole Catfish are biting and they won’t let go No fury or sound For a soul whose found On the burnet county backroad No city lights cus I’ll leave em lay Like a bitter past, so far away I got a chandelier we call the moon And a million stars light up my room Im tired of that big town dealing I Come alive with this country feeling So stick me in the middle of the cattle feeding And I’ll feel right at home, Catch a whopper in the watering hole Catfish are biting and they won’t let go No fury or sound For a soul whose found On the burnet county backroad Not a care in the open air, it's so good to my soul makes me fonder of the road I wandered down to get here, though deep in my heart i wonder where'd all them cowboys go? oh, oh, oh

A Thing I Do 03:13
I'm not here to write no hit recording And you're not there to listen to my song I just find my writing so rewarding When I'm feeling down, right, or alone And I'm not here to take up all your money And you're not there to fill my head with pride I'm just singing songs about my honey When she's right here sitting by my side It's just a thing I do I write down simple words but true I try to hum a tune Then let it out O, then I let it out I don't have a reason to get famous And you don't have a need for me to be Anything other than what I'm being And what I am is just what you can see I am just a poor hard working daddy Whose really still quite in love with his wife I'm always singing songs about my honey When she's right here a sitting by my side It's just a thing I do I write down simple words but true I try to hum a tune Then let it out O, then I let it out And I don't put a bridge in every song Cus many times I build one Then burn it and it's gone So I'll get back to doing what I do Exactly what that is I'll say it one more time to you It's just a thing I do I write down simple words but true I try to hum a tune Then let it out O, then I let it out

No 4C Blues 02:46
Meet me on the back porch baby we’ll take in the views There ain’t nobody frowning cus there ain’t no 4c blues When I sing the blues in Texas you can hear me clear to Tennessee But I can’t sing the blues when I’m out on the ol 4c There ain’t any reason on the 4c to be down and out I’d sing the blues out here but there’s nothing bad to sing about Meet me on the back porch baby we’ll take in the views There ain’t nobody frowning cus there ain’t no 4c blues

He’s bringing in his last herd Like he’s done for 60 years But on the last herd The man is barely holding back the tears He’s an old time dryland farmer Lived his life praying for the rain But he never quit workin’, waiting for the water from the good Lord til it came There was nothin’ fancy ‘bout it, what he needed his hands made In the kansas sun, he got the job done til in the coffin he was laid And he lost his brother at a young age, lost three kids along the way But he lived through the loss ‘cause he counted the cost And he had that deep, deep kind of faith Like he’s had for 80 years, but he’s giving up his last herd So ya’ll tip your hat to that old time dryland farmer Not many men like Bob White Work this good land anymore He worked in the dirt with his hands in sweat and blood, every muscle sore Still he never made no big fuss bout the pain he might have been in Kept planting and plowing praying and reaping, the living definition of a man Ol bob had a million stories And every one of them was true Born in the Great Depression And all the hard times he lived through But nothing held him back from his farm and his faith He never took his hand off the plow Til the heartbreaking day he had to give away his last 7 cows And he’s bringing in his last herd He’s going on to his reward He’s two stepping into heaven The farmer gone to rest in garden of the Lord

Come With Me 03:13
Come and ride the range with me Live the life of liberty Breathe it in, and let it be You are one with the rain, one with the plains and you Ride along, ride a long way Where you go I just can’t say, but maybe To the sun where the light takes your troubles away (Chorus) Ain’t it fun on the range Free on the hill Happy in the treetop where you’re sitting so still You can come along with me if you close your eyes (Verse 2) Ever wonder where the good times go? Ever wonder how the flowers grow? Take your time and look inside Theres a heart and soul in your mind You gotta Think back to whenever you smiled You were probably just a little child Such a happy golden time Aren’t you satisfied Havin’ fun on the range Free on the hill Happy in the treetop where you’re sitting so still You can come along with me if you close your eyes And you know when life is getting tough for you I hope you know it ain’t just you Love can leave you torn, love can leave you cold Love can leave you tangled in a web with no control

about

Down a Burnet County backroad sits a quiet ranch filled with majestic longhorns and Texas hill country views, a perfect place for our family to receive an album’s worth of songwriting inspiration. Mike and Kali Smith, together with their two daughters Sam and Jacee, run a quality operation with a focus on the utmost love and respect for every Longhorn that finds a home with the Cold Copper Cattle Co. The charming creatures are a part of the family here on the 4C. When we stepped on the ranch for the first time, the Smiths made our family feel right at home as well, with their southern, smiling hospitality. As the Smiths shared stories of the ranch and the family history that brought them to this moment, we envisioned capturing these experiences musically as an indelible tribute to the Cold Copper Ranch and the special people that live and breathe it.

The Smiths commissioning us to write songs about their ranch was an honor and a dream come true for me, having always had a passion for songwriting and especially intrigued by troubadours like Woody Guthrie, who was once hired by the federal government to write about what he saw along the Columbia River in the Pacific Northwest. Trailblazers in this venture, the Smiths have brought about a union between the Longhorn ranch life and country music- two of Texas’ most beloved and iconic traditions.

To properly tell these stories, we needed help from a top notch team of Texas musicians and musical engineers on par with the quality of work the Smiths put in. With their support, we were able to enlist the services of many of our favorite music professionals Texas has to offer. We are very pleased to present to you the final result.
